Seoul: Actor Ha Young, known for her role in the Netflix series "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call," will not be returning for the next season following controversies regarding her great-grandfather's historical ties. The streaming platform confirmed her departure on Tuesday amidst ongoing public and media scrutiny.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the controversy arose after allegations surfaced about Ha Young's great-grandfather's involvement in pro-Japanese activities during Japan's colonial rule of Korea from 1910 to 1945. The actor, legally known as Ahn Ha-young, issued an apology last month, expressing her regret and stating she was only partially aware of her great-grandfather's past. She also expressed shame in previously speaking of him as a source of family pride.

In a statement, Netflix acknowledged the situation, saying, "Respecting the actor's position, Ha Young will not appear in the next season of 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.'" Ha Young played the character of nurse Cheon Jang-mi in the show's first season, sharing the screen with co-stars Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo, and was preparing to film the upcoming season before the controversy came to light.

The situation gained traction after Ahn's appearance on the KBS talk show "Problem Child in House," where she discussed her family's long-standing involvement in medicine, mentioning her great-grandfather's education in Western medicine in Japan. This revelation, coinciding with the approach of Korea's Liberation Day, sparked public interest in her family's history, leading to criticism when her agency initially dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
