Seoul: The government plans to bolster the artificial intelligence (AI) transformation of key industrial complexes to drive the innovative growth of manufacturing industries, the industry ministry announced Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Manufacturing AI Transformation (M.AX) Alliance, a public-private cooperative entity, has established a division aimed at facilitating the integration of AI technologies within industrial complexes.
This newly formed division includes representatives from 10 prominent industrial zones across the nation, such as those in Ansan, Changwon, Gwangju, Ulsan, and Yeosu. These zones are home to manufacturing facilities in major sectors like machinery, automobile, defense, shipbuilding, and chemical industries. The government and the M.AX Alliance aim to construct automated factories that leverage AI systems and transform these areas into hubs for manufacturing AI ecosystems.
Additionally, the ministry emphasized its commitment to laying down essential AI infrastructure throughout these complexes, which includes attracting data centers and implementing fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks to support these advancements. Launched last year, the M.AX Alliance aspires to position South Korea at the forefront of the global AI transformation in manufacturing industries.
The alliance boasts membership from around 1,000 major companies and research institutes, including prominent names like Samsung Electronics Co., Hyundai Motor Group, LG Electronics Inc., and robotics company Rainbow Robotics.
