Hanoi: A government delegation traveled to Vietnam on Tuesday to explore cooperation opportunities for South Korean firms in the Southeast Asian nation's urban railway sector, the transport ministry said. The initiative aims to foster collaboration in urban rail projects, potentially benefiting both countries economically and technologically.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is set to engage in meetings with senior transport officials and industry representatives in Vietnam, including Nguyen Tuong Van, Vietnam's vice minister of construction, during its four-day visit. This engagement is crucial for understanding Vietnam's current urban rail landscape and identifying areas where South Korean expertise can be applied.

On Thursday, the delegation will host the Korea-Vietnam Urban Railway Cooperation Forum in Hanoi. The event is expected to draw approximately 100 metro officials and industry representatives from major Vietnamese cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. This forum serves as a platform for discussions on potential collaborations and sharing insights on urban rail development.

South Korean rail organizations, including Korea Railroad Corp. and Seoul Metro Corp., are prepared to present proposals at the forum. These proposals will focus on technology cooperation, training programs, and project implementations, highlighting South Korea's advanced capabilities in urban rail systems. The event is anticipated to pave the way for future partnerships and projects that could bolster urban transportation infrastructure in Vietnam.
