Government Pledges Zero Tolerance for Election-Related Illegal Activities

Seoul: The government has announced its commitment to enforcing strict measures against illegal activities as candidates commence their official campaigning for the upcoming presidential election on June 3. This announcement was made in a joint statement by Justice Minister Park Sung-jae and acting Interior Minister Ko Ki-dong, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring a "fair and clean election."

According to Yonhap News Agency, the government will rigorously investigate any breaches of regulations related to opinion polls, the dissemination of false information on social media, and any violence occurring during the campaign period. This will be done in alignment with a zero-tolerance policy. Ko Ki-dong declared that the government would not permit any illegal actions or violations of political neutrality by public officials throughout the election process.

This presidential election is taking place in the aftermath of the ousting of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faced impeachment following his brief imposition of martial law in December.
