Vice FM Kim Hong-kyun to Visit Indonesia for Bilateral Cooperation Talks

Jakarta: First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun is set to travel to Indonesia this week to engage in discussions with his Indonesian counterpart aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation, according to the foreign ministry on Monday. Kim's visit underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties between South Korea and Indonesia.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim will depart for Jakarta on Tuesday for a two-day visit. During his trip, he is scheduled to address vital issues related to bilateral cooperation through high-level diplomatic meetings, including talks with an Indonesian vice minister. This visit is a strategic move by South Korea to solidify its relationship with individual member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) after establishing a "comprehensive strategic partnership" with the regional bloc late last year.

South Korea's interest in Indonesia is significant, given that approximately 2,000 South Korean companies operate business entities in the country. Indonesia, as a leading ASEAN member, is considered a crucial economic partner for Seoul. The discussions during Kim's visit are expected to focus on fostering economic collaboration and other aspects of mutual interest.
