Seoul: GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of General Motors Co., announced Wednesday that its monthly sales plunged 39.1 percent in September compared to the previous year, attributing the decline to sluggish demand. The company reported sales of 23,723 vehicles last month, a significant drop from the 38,967 units sold a year earlier.

According to Yonhap News Agency, GM Korea's domestic sales decreased by 37.1 percent year-on-year to 1,231 units from 1,958. Meanwhile, exports saw a reduction of 39.2 percent, falling to 22,492 units from 37,009. The Chevrolet Trax Crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) led the overseas sales with 15,365 units, followed by the Trailblazer compact SUV with 7,127 units.

As part of its two-track strategy, GM Korea offers both domestically assembled and imported vehicles in South Korea, which is Asia's fourth-largest economy. The company's current lineup includes two locally assembled models, the Trailblazer and the Trax Crossover, as well as two imported models, the Colorado pickup and the GMC Sierra Denali.
