Seoul: GM Korea Co., the South Korean subsidiary of General Motors Co., has reported a significant increase in its monthly sales for August, driven primarily by a robust demand for its Chevrolet Trax Crossover and Trailblazer SUVs in international markets. The company announced on Monday that its sales rose by 34.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, GM Korea sold a total of 21,059 vehicles in August, a substantial rise from the 15,634 units sold in the previous year. While domestic sales experienced a decline of 25.2 percent, dropping to 1,207 units from last year’s 1,614, the company’s export numbers saw a remarkable increase of 41.6 percent, reaching 19,852 units compared to 14,020 in the previous year.
The Chevrolet Trax Crossover was the standout performer in international markets, with sales soaring by 56.6 percent to 15,693 units. The Trailblazer also contributed to the export surge, with a 4.2 percent increase in sales, totaling 4,159 units.
GM Korea operates on a dual strategy, offering both locally assembled and imported vehicles in South Korea, which is Asia’s fourth-largest economy. Its current vehicle lineup includes the domestically assembled Trailblazer and Trax Crossover, as well as the imported Colorado pickup and GMC Sierra Denali models.
