Seoul: Global downloads of South Korean mobile apps on the Google Play Store last year were more than double the number of installments made locally, an industry report showed Wednesday. Global downloads of South Korean apps reached 1.8 billion in 2025, some 2.5 times higher than the 730 million tallied domestically.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a report published by the consulting agency Public First, cited by Google Korea, highlighted that India led the international download numbers with 365 million installations. This was followed by Indonesia with 131 million and Brazil with 123 million. The report also emphasized that the Google Play Store and the Android ecosystem generated US$69 billion in revenue for South Korea last year.
The report further detailed South Korea's growth in the global developer community, achieving the No. 1 position in terms of the number of active developers in 2025, marking an ascent by two ranks from the previous year. The findings also revealed that generative artificial intelligence (AI) has played a significant role in enhancing the productivity of app developers by 33 percent. Developers leveraging Google's AI tools were able to reduce their working hours by an average of 9.2 hours per week.
