Seoul: Former Justice Minister Kang Kum-sil has been appointed as South Korea's special ambassador for climate and environment to help bolster diplomacy in the fields, the foreign ministry announced Friday. Her term in the special ambassador post will span one year, focusing on engaging experts from outside the diplomatic service to enhance diplomatic efforts.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in her new capacity, Kang will represent the government at climate- and environment-related events both domestically and internationally. Kang's extensive experience includes serving as justice minister under former President Roh Moo-hyun and leading the election policy committee at the ruling Democratic Party during the last presidential election, in which then-party leader Lee Jae Myung was elected president. She also previously held the position of climate envoy for the Gyeonggi provincial government.
