Daejeon: Lee Sang-min, chairman of the Daejeon Metropolitan Chapter of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP), died on Wednesday at the age of 67. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Daejeon, 170 kilometers south of Seoul, after experiencing symptoms of paralysis at his apartment in the city.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee's family and rescue service officials reported that 119 rescue service workers found him in a state of cardiac arrest at his home at 9:33 a.m. Despite efforts to revive him, he was declared dead shortly after reaching the hospital.

Lee Sang-min, known for his sharp political commentary, left the Democratic Party in December 2023 and joined the PPP in January 2024. He ran for the National Assembly in the general election in April 2024 but was unsuccessful. Subsequently, he was elected to lead the PPP's Daejeon chapter in May 2024. Party officials noted that Lee had been battling diabetes.
