Former Deputy Foreign Minister Yoon Soon-gu Appointed as South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia

Seoul: Former Deputy Foreign Minister Yoon Soon-gu has been appointed as the new South Korean ambassador to Indonesia, the foreign ministry announced in a regular reshuffle that also introduced two new consul-generals.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon is a retired career diplomat who has previously held positions as ambassador to Egypt and ambassador to Belgium, with concurrent accreditation to the European Union. He will now lead the diplomatic mission in Jakarta. Yoon served as deputy foreign minister for political affairs under former President Moon Jae-in's administration from 2017 to 2019 and has recently been part of the presidential policy planning committee for President Lee Jae Myung.

In addition to Yoon's appointment, the foreign ministry has announced that Lee Young-chae, a professor at Japan's Keisen University recognized for his expertise in Japan affairs, will assume the role of consul-general in Osaka. Furthermore, Lee Joon-ho, a career diplomat and former ambassador to Qatar, has been appointed as consul-general in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.
