Seoul: A foreign national who called emergency services after becoming lost on a suburban hiking trail has been confirmed to have safely returned to her residence in Seoul, as reported by police and fire authorities on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Hong Kong national, a woman in her 50s, was located at her residence in Seoul around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday. Authorities had initially received a call from the woman at approximately 9:06 p.m. on Friday, but the phone connection was ultimately lost. This prompted an extensive search operation utilizing helicopters, drones, and rescue dogs.
The search was conducted at Cheolmasan mountain in Namyangju, located north of Seoul, after the woman referenced "iron horse" as her location during the call. The term "Cheolma" translates to "iron horse" in Korean, which directed the authorities to the specific area.
Authorities concluded the search after successfully tracking her movements through CCTV footage from Namyangju to Seoul. The woman later confirmed that she was indeed the individual who had made the emergency call, thereby ensuring the end of the search efforts.
