Foreign Pitchers Set to Face Off in KBO Playoff Elimination Game

Seoul:The Kia Tigers and LG Twins are preparing for a crucial matchup in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason. The Tigers hold a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series, and the action continues at 630 p.m. Tuesday at Seoul's Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Japanese right-hander Keisho Shirakawa will start for the Tigers, while Venezuelan right-hander Carlos Carrasco will take the mound for the Twins. Both pitchers are making their debut appearances in the KBO postseason. Carrasco previously pitched six innings of one-run baseball to secure a 4-1 victory against the Doosan Bears in the wild card game. During the regular season, Carrasco faced the Tigers on October 3, conceding three runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Shirakawa, who recorded a 4-5 record with a 4.75 ERA in 18 regular-season games, struggled against the Twins, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, including four home runs, in 9 1/3 innings. Austin Dean hit two home runs off Shirakawa during the regular season, while Park Dong-won and Lee Jae-won also homered against him.

If the Twins are defeated, it will mark the final game at Jamsil before its demolition to make way for a new dome. Despite both teams having the same number of hits in the series, the Tigers have capitalized better, batting .455/.529/.727 with runners in scoring positions, compared to the Twins' .250/.308/.250.

Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho has effectively utilized his bullpen, with relievers covering only five innings, thanks to strong starts by James Naile and Adam Oller. Closer Jeon Sang-hyun has been pivotal, securing consecutive four-out saves. Conversely, Twins manager Youm Kyoung-youb has relied on eight relievers to handle 10 2/3 innings, notably after Game 2 starter Im Chan-kyu's early exit.
