Seoul: The foreign ministry announced Friday that it will lift special travel advisories for certain areas in Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Ethiopia, as local security and health risks have diminished.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry has rescinded the special advisory for seven provinces near the Thailand-Cambodia border, downgrading the travel alert to Level 1, which advises caution. This decision reflects improved safety conditions in these regions.

Special travel advisories serve as temporary warnings for countries experiencing immediate and short-term risks. These advisories can last up to 90 days and may be extended if necessary. However, the advisories for Laos and Myanmar border checkpoints will remain active to protect South Korean nationals from job scams and potential forced confinement.

In Ethiopia, the advisory for parts of the capital, Addis Ababa, is also being lifted, as there have been no active Ebola cases recently. In Azerbaijan and Turkey, specific area restrictions will be removed due to the absence of recent drone or missile strikes amidst broader Middle East conflicts.
