Seoul: Foreign Minister Cho Hyun stated that Pyongyang might respond to the new Seoul administration's ongoing peace initiatives, pointing to North Korea's recent dispatch of a diplomatic delegation to the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly. Cho shared these insights during an interview with broadcaster MBC following his return from the U.N. gathering held in New York, which he attended alongside President Lee Jae Myung.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho interpreted the participation of the North Korean delegation as a possible sign of Pyongyang's willingness to engage with the international community. He noted that this could indicate a response to the peace messages issued by the Lee Jae Myung government, which focus on easing military tensions, building trust, and ultimately establishing peace between the Koreas. Cho mentioned that there are small but detectable activities suggesting a potential response.

Cho also discussed the possibility of talks between Pyongyang and Washington during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea next month. He confirmed that preparations are underway, considering various scenarios. Additionally, Cho mentioned ongoing efforts to negotiate a tariff agreement with Washington "based on principles" prior to the APEC summit, emphasizing that Seoul will not agree to terms that are "against national interests or are irrational."
