Hong kong: The Ministry of Finance and Economy announced that it conducted a meeting with global institutional investors this week in Hong Kong to discuss the South Korean economy amidst escalating uncertainties due to the Middle East conflict.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting, which took place on Thursday, involved high-ranking officials from major global financial institutions such as Citibank, HSBC, and JPMorgan Chase and Co. The event featured a round table session with 16 participants from 10 different financial institutions.
The ministry highlighted that the South Korean economy has been on a recovery path since the latter half of last year. It emphasized the country's external stability, underpinned by substantial foreign exchange reserves and a significant level of net foreign assets.
Participants were briefed on South Korea's capability to manage uncertainties arising from the Middle East conflict. The ministry underscored the nation's stable macroeconomic environment and its ample energy reserves, reassuring investors of South Korea's resilience.
Additionally, the ministry introduced initiatives aimed at enhancing foreign access to the local capital market, including plans to operate the foreign exchange market around the clock.
