Seoul: South Korea's finance and agriculture ministries announced their collaboration on Tuesday to utilize drone footage and artificial intelligence (AI) analysis technologies for comprehensive nationwide surveys of farmland and state-owned property. This initiative is aimed at improving the accuracy and efficiency of land management systems.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agriculture ministry is set to survey approximately 1.36 million hectares of farmland nationwide. This land has been acquired since the Farmland Act's implementation in 1996, and the survey seeks to determine actual ownership and usage. The collaboration will involve the sharing of drone footage, AI technology, and survey data between the two ministries.

The finance ministry will contribute AI-based data by analyzing aerial images of farmland taken between 2023 and 2025. This data will be instrumental in the surveys of state-owned properties. The agriculture ministry plans to use this information to identify farmland that has been left unused, illegally repurposed, or contains unauthorized structures.

In exchange, the agriculture ministry will provide drone footage captured by the Korea Rural Community Corp. This footage will assist the finance ministry in identifying and addressing unauthorized occupation of state-owned land. A finance ministry official emphasized the mutual benefits of sharing AI technologies, drone footage, and survey expertise to support the agriculture ministry's farmland survey efforts.
