Seoul: Former ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to attend a court hearing later this week regarding a new case involving his role in a failed martial law bid, according to Yoon's legal team. The team announced on Tuesday that Yoon's presence is required as part of legal procedures for the first hearing.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a special counsel team investigating the case has indicted Yoon on charges of allegedly abusing his authority and obstructing the exercise of rights. This comes in addition to an ongoing trial where Yoon is facing charges of leading an insurrection. Despite being in custody since July, Yoon has missed ten consecutive court sessions in the insurrection trial, citing health concerns.
The Seoul Central District Court is scheduled to conduct a hearing for Yoon's bail request on the same day as the new case hearing. Yoon filed for bail last week, arguing his right to self-defense and raising issues related to his health.
