Seoul: Kim Moon-soo, the former labour minister, has been elected as the presidential candidate for South Korea's conservative People Power Party, as revealed by TV footage. Kim, who previously served during the administration of the ousted President Yoon Suk-yeol, secured 56.53 percent of the votes at the party's recent convention.

According to Nam News Network, Kim was closely followed by Han Dong-hoon, the former leader of the second-largest faction within the People Power Party, who garnered 43.47 percent of the votes. Despite the close competition within the party, external polls indicate a different scenario. A recent survey showed Han leading with a support rate of 13 percent, compared to Kim's approval score of six percent.

The survey further highlighted the challenges faced by both candidates, as their support scores lagged significantly behind the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Lee, who boasted a substantial 42 percent backing. The poll, which sampled 1,000 voters between Monday and Wednesday, reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.
