Ex-First Lady and Opposition Lawmaker Indicted in Presidential Residence Relocation Case

Seoul: Former first lady Kim Keon Hee and opposition lawmaker Rep. Yoon Han-hong were indicted Tuesday over their involvement in a presidential residence relocation project initiated under former President Yoon Suk Yeol, a special counsel team revealed.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the charges against Kim, the wife of the former president, and Rep. Yoon from the main opposition People Power Party, involve interference in the awarding of a 4.12 billion won (US$ 2.92 million) contract to a construction company, 21 Gram, which was not qualified for the project. Special counsel Kwon Chang-young's team stated that 21 Gram, which had significant connections with Kim, was chosen as the contractor through the influence of Kim and Rep. Yoon, who previously led Yoon's presidential transition team task force responsible for the relocation of the presidential office and residence.

Additionally, Kim faces charges of accepting bribes and valuables totaling 10.12 million won from 21 Gram. These bribes were reportedly exchanged for securing the contract and gaining favorable adjustments to construction costs.
