Ex-Defense Minister Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Leaking Military Secrets

Seoul: A Seoul court on Friday sentenced former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun to three years in prison for leaking military secrets in the lead up to former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law bid in December 2024. The court's decision marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the controversial events surrounding the attempted imposition of martial law.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Central District Court handed down the sentence for Kim, who was indicted on charges of conspiring with military officials. The court found that Kim had facilitated the transfer of personal information of more than 40 military intelligence personnel to a retired general during the period between October and November 2024.
