Seoul: The leader of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) on Sunday denounced the violent clashes that erupted at the Seoul Western District Court from supporters of detained President Yoon Suk Yeol, calling them “inexcusable acts” that endanger the judicial system.
According to Yonhap News Agency, DP leader Lee Jae-myung made the remarks while referring to a group of protesters who stormed into the court in anger over the decision to formally arrest Yoon early Sunday for his failed martial law bid. Lee emphasized the severity of the situation, highlighting that such actions jeopardize the integrity of the judicial system, which is essential for maintaining community order and the foundational principles of a democratic republic.
Lee further commented, “These are inexcusable acts which destroy the judicial system that binds the country’s community order and the basic order of a democratic republic.” He also expressed his views on the current turmoil, suggesting it represents a period of transformation. “I think this chaos we are going through is the contractions on the path to a new start,” Lee said, expressing confidence that the situation will be resolved through the collective strength and resilience of the people.
