Seoul: The floor leader of the ruling Democratic Party (DP) pledged to press ahead with sweeping judicial reforms and put an end to former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law crisis as he addressed the parliament on Tuesday. Rep. Han Byung-do made the remarks in his policy address at the National Assembly, calling people's livelihoods the utmost priority of the Lee Jae Myung administration.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Han emphasized the importance of restoring people's livelihoods as a means to end insurrection. "An end to insurrection equals restoring people's livelihoods," he stated. Han outlined the DP's commitment to implementing comprehensive prosecutorial, judicial, and social reforms.

He further highlighted the necessity of a thorough investigation into allegations that were not fully addressed by three special counsel investigations. These include Yoon's failed martial law bid, corruption allegations related to former first lady Kim Keon Hee, and the 2023 death of a Marine.

On the subject of prosecutorial reform, Han declared that there would be "no compromise," reinforcing the party's dedication to separating the prosecution's investigative and indictment authorities to limit its power. Han also asserted that Yoon and other key figures involved in the Dec. 3 martial law declaration, such as former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, will face the maximum sentence when the court announces its verdict on Feb. 19.
