Dinos Part Ways with Ex-KBO Home Run Leader Matt Davidson

Bangkok: The NC Dinos announced Friday they will release their first baseman Matt Davidson, two years after the American slugger led South Korean baseball in home runs.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Davidson, 35, is set to play his final game in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on Friday against the Kiwoom Heroes at Changwon NC Park. This season marks his third year in the league, with a batting average of .286, eight home runs, and 37 RBIs over 62 games.

In 2024, Davidson led the KBO with 46 home runs and was second with 119 RBIs and a .633 slugging percentage across 131 games. His performance saw a decline in 2025, with 36 home runs, 97 RBIs, and a .619 slugging percentage in 112 games.

The 2026 season began slowly for Davidson, who carried a .247 batting average with four homers in his first 26 games. However, he showed improvement with a .343 average in June, prompting a difficult decision for the Dinos.

The team stated their decision to release Davidson is part of a strategy to enhance competitiveness in the latter half of the season. The Dinos are in the process of acquiring a new foreign batter to fill the void left by Davidson.
