Seoul: The defense ministry announced plans to convene a committee meeting this week to decide on disciplinary action against eight general-level officers involved in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law bid. The meeting is scheduled for Friday as part of the ministry's efforts to reform the military following the attempted martial law on December 3 last year, which resulted in the suspension of high-ranking officers across the armed forces.

According to Yonhap News Agency, those under review include Kwak Jong-keun, former chief of the Army Special Warfare Command; Yeo In-hyung, former head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command; and Lee Jin-woo, former head of the Capital Defense Command. Chung Binna, ministry spokesperson, stated in a regular press briefing that the ministry has been reviewing disciplinary measures, considering the ongoing investigation and trial, as well as the stability of the military.

Chung emphasized the need to normalize the management of general-level officers to pursue a personnel overhaul and address the vacancies in major commander posts. Earlier this week, the ministry initiated a special investigative unit to further examine allegations related to the martial law bid within the military.
