Seoul: Acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho and Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur on Monday engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the defense sector and the arms industry, the defense ministry said. The meeting took place in Seoul, focusing on expanding the existing partnership between the two nations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim highlighted advancements in cybersecurity collaboration between South Korea and Estonia and proposed extending their cooperation to other areas. He also provided Pevkur with an overview of South Korea's weapons systems, including the K9 self-propelled howitzer, which Estonia has acquired.
Both ministers agreed to pursue mutually beneficial initiatives such as personnel exchanges and training programs. They emphasized the importance of open communication to further develop defense and arms collaboration.
Additionally, the two officials expressed their concerns about the growing military alignment between North Korea and Russia. They highlighted the adverse effects of this alignment on security in the Korean Peninsula and Europe, calling for an immediate cessation of what they termed illegal cooperation.
