Hwaseong:A National Election Commission (NEC) official was found dead outside his apartment in Hwaseong, south of Seoul, a day after being questioned by a special counsel. The investigation team announced that the suicide note left by the official did not mention any coercive interrogation tactics by the special counsel investigators.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the NEC official, who was in his 40s, reportedly expressed grievances over the questioning he faced the previous day in his suicide note. Despite claims from the official's lawyer about pressure and coercion during the interrogation, the investigation team, led by special counsel Lee Tae-han, stated that the note did not indicate any such coercion.
The special counsel team confirmed that they examined the content of the suicide note through proper procedures. The deceased reportedly did not hold a grudge against the special counsel, instead pointing out organizational issues within the NEC. The special counsel team was established on September 7 to investigate allegations of misconduct involving the NEC, including ballot shortages and suspected manipulation of voter turnout data during the June local elections.
