Boryeong:Seoul The Army's Ground Operations Command (GOC) has successfully carried out an annual counterfire field training exercise aimed at bolstering its preparedness for wartime operations, as reported by the armed service on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the exercises took place from Monday through Friday, engaging approximately 4,100 troops associated with the Combined Ground Component Command (CGCC).
The GOC operates as the ground component command of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC), which transitioned into a standing unit earlier this year. The drills coincided with the annual Hoguk exercise, where troops trained under a simulated all-out war scenario on the Korean Peninsula.
The CGCC task force, consisting of intelligence and artillery units, worked on occupying positions and detecting and striking targets utilizing their combined assets. Various joint surveillance and strike assets were mobilized, including the allies' unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), counter-battery radars, the Korean Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile (KTSSM), and K9 self-propelled howitzers.
The participating troops also rehearsed response measures for accidental situations such as enemy attacks on the task force unit and communications network jamming. They further engaged in sustainment support training, which included munitions resupply.
Simultaneously, the GOC conducted anti-aircraft live-fire training using guided weapons systems in Boryeong, approximately 140 kilometers southwest of Seoul.
