Debris from Airborne Objects That Hit South Korean Ship in Strait of Hormuz Arrives in Country

Seoul: Debris from airborne objects that struck an HMM-operated vessel in the Strait of Hormuz last week has arrived in South Korea for analysis, the foreign ministry announced. The fragments, transported after discussions with the United Arab Emirates government, will be examined by specialized agencies to uncover more details about the incident.

According to Yonhap News Agency, an on-site inspection conducted last weekend revealed that the HMM Namu, a Panama-flagged cargo ship managed by South Korean shipping firm HMM Co., was hit by two airborne objects on May 4. This resulted in an explosion and subsequent fire on board while the vessel was stranded in the strait. The government has not yet identified the objects or the perpetrators behind the attack.

The analysis of the debris is anticipated to be carried out by the Agency for Defense Development, a state defense research institute. Earlier, a senior government official indicated that a specialized agency under the defense ministry would meticulously study the debris to determine the specifics of the attack.
