Daejeon: Daejeon Hana Citizen FC acquired two new attackers Friday, hours after they were let go by their club in the top South Korean football league. Daejeon signed Swedish winger Gustav Ludwigson and South Korean midfielder Um Won-sang. After finishing in second place behind Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the K League 1 last year, Daejeon will count on the championship pedigree of the two new faces as they try to take the next step.

According to Yonhap News Agency, earlier in the day, Ulsan HD FC had announced they were parting ways with both Ludwigson and Um as part of their offseason squad overhaul. Ludwigson had played for Ulsan from 2023 to 2025, and put up 18 goals along with 11 assists in 85 matches. He finished third on the team with five goals last year.

"He can be an attacker on the wings and is also capable of playing as a defender," Daejeon noted. "Ludwigson is a speedy player who can cover a ton of ground, and he will further strengthen our squad."

Um was with Ulsan from 2022 to 2025, enjoying the best season of his seven-year K League career in 2022 by scoring a team-high 12 goals. However, Um failed to reach double figures in goals in each of the next three seasons while being hobbled by knee injuries. In 2025, Um only managed one goal with five assists in 30 matches.

Daejeon said Um, who will turn 27 next week, still has more to give as a versatile weapon. "He has so much championship experience and can handle every position on offense," the club said. "Our attacking unit will be upgraded with his addition."

Ulsan won three consecutive K League 1 titles from 2022 to 2024 but finished in ninth place in 2025 with 44 points, just two points out of the relegation zone. Earlier in the offseason, veteran midfielder Jung Woo-young announced he was leaving Ulsan after two seasons.

Ulsan went through two head coaches last year, with Shin Tae-yong, the second bench boss, leaving under the cloud of allegations that he had physically and verbally abused his players. On Christmas Eve, they announced their club legend Kim Hyun-seog as the new head coach.
