Havana: Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has extended his congratulations to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on his reelection as the country's top leader, emphasizing Cuba's dedication to enhancing bilateral relations with Pyongyang, as reported by North Korean state media.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Diaz-Canel conveyed his message to Kim earlier this month, highlighting the importance he places on the relationship with North Korea. He reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to expanding friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between the two nations in a letter congratulating Kim on his reelection as president of the state affairs commission during a recent parliamentary session.
The relationship between North Korea and Cuba, both long-time allies, appears to be strengthening after a period of strain following Cuba's unexpected establishment of diplomatic relations with South Korea in 2024. Reports indicate that Kim and Diaz-Canel met during their travels to China in September last year, where they attended a military parade in Beijing.
