Seoul: Harold Rogers, the interim CEO of Coupang Corp., returned early Saturday following 14 hours of police questioning concerning allegations of perjury during his testimony before the South Korean parliament in December. Rogers is accused of lying under oath during a hearing on a significant data breach that impacted over 33 million customers in South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rogers informed lawmakers that Coupang conducted an internal investigation on a Chinese national suspected of involvement in the data breach, claiming the laptop of the individual was confiscated under the instructions of the National Intelligence Service, South Korea's spy agency. The police interrogation focused on these allegations.

Appearing from the Seoul police investigative headquarters in Mapo at 3:25 a.m., Rogers declined to answer questions from reporters as he left. This marks the second time in a week that Rogers has been questioned, as authorities intensify their investigation into the data breach case, which Coupang disclosed in November.

There are expectations of further questioning of Rogers, as he may face interrogation over suspicions of a cover-up related to the death of a Coupang worker at a logistics center in 2020. Furthermore, Rogers is anticipated to depart South Korea later this month to provide testimony before the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary. The committee is examining what it describes as South Korea's "discriminatory targeting" of American companies.
