Coupang Recovers Leaked Data of 3,000 Customers, Ensures No External Breach

Seoul: E-commerce giant Coupang Inc. announced on Thursday that it has successfully recovered all leaked personal information involving roughly 3,000 customers, confirming that no data was transferred outside the company.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a former employee of Coupang accessed basic customer information from approximately 33 million accounts by using stolen security keys. Despite this, data from only about 3,000 accounts was actually saved and subsequently deleted by the suspect.

Coupang's internal investigation revealed no evidence of customer data being shared with or transmitted to third parties. The company has also secured all devices used for accessing and storing customer information, including a hard drive. The accessed data included customers' names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, and other details.

Coupang emphasized that there was no breach of sensitive information such as payment details, login credentials, or customs clearance numbers, thereby assuring its customers of their data security.
