Washington: E-commerce giant Coupang Inc. announced its commitment to resolving ongoing issues in South Korea, where it is currently under investigation due to a significant data leak affecting millions of customer accounts.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Harold Rogers, interim chief executive officer of Coupang's Korean unit, attended a closed-door hearing of the House Judiciary Committee in Washington. The hearing was part of the panel's review concerning the treatment of American companies by the South Korean government. This follows a joint public-private investigation earlier this month, which revealed that over 33.6 million customer accounts in South Korea were compromised.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Coupang expressed regret over the situation that necessitated the congressional deposition. The company emphasized its role as a bridge between the United States and South Korea, aiming to enhance bilateral economic relations, strengthen security alliances, and boost trade and investment that benefits both nations, as noted by Robert Porter, Coupang's chief global affairs officer.

Rogers refrained from commenting on whether he had any specific message for South Korean consumers during his appearance at the hearing.
