Choi Kil-su Pledges Political Neutrality as New Presidential Special Inspector

Seoul:The newly appointed presidential special inspector, Choi Kil-su, has committed to maintaining political neutrality and professional independence as he begins his role investigating irregularities involving the president's spouse and close relatives.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi made these comments to reporters at his office in central Seoul. His appointment by President Lee Jae Myung was formalized on Friday, with the responsibility of inspecting corruption allegations involving the president's family and senior aides.

Choi is the first person to hold this position since late 2016, following the creation of the role in 2014. He emphasized his commitment to political neutrality and independence, expressing that he understands the heavy responsibility of his duties and aims to fulfill public expectations.

Additionally, Choi promised thorough inspections and likened his role to that of a "panopticon," a design that enables constant observation. He stressed that inspections should be proactive information-gathering efforts rather than reactive responses to complaints or lawsuits.
