Seoul: Cheong Wa Dae announced South Korea's continued commitment to peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula on Thursday, following North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's dismissal of any dialogue with Seoul. Kim, however, hinted at the possibility of engaging in talks with the United States.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cheong Wa Dae's response came after Kim Jong-un, concluding the North's significant party congress, labeled President Lee Jae Myung's administration's outreach as "deceptive." A senior presidential official emphasized the South's intent to foster a future of co-prosperity, urging both Koreas to avoid hostile rhetoric and to build a foundation of mutual respect and trust.

During the party congress, Kim reiterated North Korea's stance of treating inter-Korean relations as those between hostile states, excluding South Korea from "the category of the same people." He warned of "terrible retaliatory attacks" against any hostile military actions directed at North Korea during a military parade marking the congress's end.

In contrast to his stance on inter-Korean relations, Kim expressed openness to potential discussions with Washington, implying that North Korea might engage in talks if conditions are favorable.
