Los Angeles:K-pop sensation BTS secured three awards at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, including Song of the Year, while BLACKPINK's Lisa became the first Asian solo artist to win Best Pop.

According to Yonhap News Agency, BTS triumphed in the Song of the Year and Best K-pop categories with "Swim," the lead track from their fifth studio album "Arirang," and also won Best Group. The ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday (U.S. time).

The South Korean group claimed Song of the Year over a competitive field, featuring nominees such as "Golden" from Netflix's "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack, Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's "Bring Your Love," and Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas." Despite winning every category they were nominated for, BTS did not attend due to scheduling conflicts.

This win marks BTS's first Song of the Year award, regarded as the show's top honor. Last year, BLACKPINK's Rose was the first K-pop artist to achieve this accolade with her single "APT." in collaboration with Bruno Mars.

With their Best Group win, BTS extended their record for the most victories in this category, achieving five overall after a streak from 2019 to 2022. Their Best K-pop win is the fourth, following three consecutive wins from 2019 to 2021. Lisa's Best Pop win for "Dream," featuring Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi, made her the first Asian and K-pop solo artist to receive the accolade.

Lisa expressed her gratitude onstage, thanking MTV and her fans, referred to as "Lilies," for their support. This victory is her fourth VMA trophy, having previously won three Best K-pop awards as a solo artist in 2022, 2024, and 2025.

During the event, Lisa performed her new song "SaWaDiKa." Other K-pop nominees included BLACKPINK's Jennie, boy group Cortis, and girl group Katseye, who did not win any awards at this year's VMAs.
