Accra:K-pop superband BTS has become the first group worldwide to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify within a single year, as announced by the group's label.
According to Yonhap News Agency, while individual artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Bad Bunny have previously hit this milestone, BTS is the first group to achieve it. This achievement comes as BTS's Spotify streams more than doubled from last year's 4.5 billion, largely due to their fifth studio album, "Arirang," released in March.
"Arirang" has garnered more than 5 billion streams since its release, making it the most-streamed album on Spotify among this year's releases. The album received significant attention as it was the first full-group project from BTS in almost four years, following the completion of their mandatory military service. On its release day, March 20, it surpassed 110 million streams.
Additionally, "Arirang" became the first album by a group to top the Billboard 200, the leading U.S. albums chart, for three consecutive weeks, a feat not achieved by a group since Mumford and Sons' "Babel" in 2012.
