Seoul: The upcoming Korean romance series, "Genie, Make a Wish," introduces a unique twist to the classic genie narrative by featuring a satanic genie and a woman born without emotions. The Netflix original series explores themes of human nature, desire, love, friendship, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

According to Yonhap News Agency, actor Kim Woo-bin, who portrays the genie, discussed the series at a press conference. He expressed that the script was compelling, drawing him to cherish each scene and commit deeply to bringing the story to life. The 12-episode series follows the genie and Ga-young, played by Bae Suzy. When Ga-young accidentally awakens the genie in a Dubai desert, he grants her three wishes as a form of gratitude.

The genie, skeptical of human integrity, urges Ga-young to make her wishes swiftly to validate his belief that all humans are corruptible. However, Ga-young's antisocial personality disorder renders her immune to his influence, challenging his plans. Kim described his character as multi-faceted, noting the genie's cheerful yet cruel demeanor and moments of vulnerability.

Bae Suzy described her character, Ga-young, as an "attractive psychopath" who, despite lacking emotions, aims to lead a righteous life guided by her grandmother's teachings. Ga-young's adherence to her own set of rules results in a life that is more upright than that of ordinary people.

The series is penned by Kim Eun-sook, an acclaimed writer responsible for several successful TV dramas, including "Secret Garden," "Heirs," "Descendants of the Sun," and "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God." Her recent work, "The Glory," became a popular Korean drama on Netflix. The series is directed by Ahn Gil-ho, who took over from Lee Byeong-heon, known for his work in both films and TV series.

"Genie, Make a Wish" also marks the reunion of Bae Suzy and Kim Woo-bin, who previously co-starred in the 2016 drama "Uncontrollably Fond." The series is scheduled for release on Netflix on Friday.
