Jeju: The Jeju District Court has issued an arrest warrant for a police officer on the island of Jeju, accused of improperly handling a missing person case that may have contributed to the woman's death.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the officer is facing multiple charges, including dereliction of duty, forgery, falsifying public electronic records, and obstruction of official duties through deception. The arrest warrant hearing commenced at 2:30 p.m. at the court.
The officer allegedly closed the case of Jang Mi-ran prematurely in May without verifying her safety. Additionally, the officer is accused of deleting Jang's information from the police's missing persons profiling system. On Tuesday, authorities confirmed that a body found on the southern island was that of Jang.
The officer was initially placed under emergency detention on Saturday but was released on Monday after a court reviewed the legality of his detention.
