Gwangju: The Army has deployed some 2,500 military personnel and equipment to areas hit hard by the recent torrential rain to help recovery work, the armed services said Monday. A total of around 2,500 emergency personnel and 20 pieces of equipment have been deployed in the southwestern city of Gwangju, as well as parts of South Chungcheong Province and South Gyeongsang Province since Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the heavy rains and landslides that began last week have resulted in the deaths of 18 people and left nine others missing. The severe weather conditions have displaced more than 14,000 individuals across 15 major cities and provinces.
The Army's recovery efforts are focused on overhauling houses and stores inundated by the rains. This includes removing soil and organizing household items. The Army has stated that it will continue to assist with the recovery efforts to support the affected communities.
