Paju: An Army corporal from the Joint Security Area security battalion, responsible for guarding the south side of Panmunjom's truce village, sustained a gunshot wound during a training exercise, the Army reported.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the incident occurred while the soldier was participating in pistol training at the battalion's firing range in Paju, a border town just outside the Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea. The corporal was injured on his right shin when a bullet was discharged as he was holstering his pistol.
The soldier was promptly transported to a military hospital, where he is being treated for the non-life-threatening injury. Authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of the accident, as stated by the Army.
