Daegu: Police announced Wednesday their intention to launch an investigation into the apparent suicide of an Army captain in Daegu earlier this week. The officer, whose identity remains confidential, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head at Suseongmot Lake Resort on Tuesday morning, with a suicide note that detailed allegations of workplace bullying and abuse.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the suicide note was divided into three sections, directed towards military authorities, the captain's parents, and reporters. The note's section to reporters highlighted the bullying and cruel treatment the officer allegedly faced at work. Alongside the note, a K-2 training rifle was found at the scene.

Current legislation mandates that military police swiftly transfer cases to civilian police when instances of abuse or sexual offenses are confirmed in a soldier's death. The military police are in the process of verifying the fundamental facts surrounding the officer's death and will soon hand over the case to the police, as stated by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency.
