Seoul: The arms procurement agency announced Tuesday that its associated bodies will extend technical support for the investigation into a recent explosion at a Hanwha Aerospace factory. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left two others injured after an explosion and fire erupted at the plant on Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has established a task force to manage the aftermath of the explosion. The agency is committed to aiding the investigation by leveraging the expertise of personnel from the Agency for Defense Development and the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, among other specialized institutions, to determine the cause of the accident. DAPA spokesperson Kim Joo-chul emphasized the agency's readiness to support the investigation during a press briefing.

Amid concerns about potential inspection lapses at high-security defense industry facilities, Kim assured that DAPA conducts annual inspections based on relevant laws. He further stated that the Central Industrial Disaster Headquarters and the Ministry of Employment and Labor would conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the incident.

Following the accident, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. He pledged to make every effort to uncover the exact causes of the incident and take measures to prevent future occurrences.
