Seoul: An appeals court has upheld a two-year prison sentence for retired Army Maj. Gen. Noh Sang-won, who was convicted for collecting personal information of military intelligence agents during the brief imposition of martial law in 2024.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul High Court maintained the lower court's decision, which found Noh guilty of violating the personal information protection law and other offenses. Noh, formerly the commander of the Defense Intelligence Command, was indicted for receiving sensitive military intelligence, including personal details of agents, to form an organization investigating allegations of election fraud following ex-President Yoon's martial law declaration.

Noh also faced charges for accepting 20 million won (US$13,900) in cash and gift certificates worth 6 million won from military officers in exchange for promises to assist with their promotions. The court affirmed the lower court's ruling that deemed the formation of the investigative team unconstitutional and illegal.

Noh is concurrently on trial for his alleged significant involvement in an insurrection related to Yoon's unsuccessful martial law attempt.
