Another South Korean court ordered a Japanese company on Friday to compensate victims of Japan's wartime forced labor. The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Mitsubishi Materials Corp. must compensate five South Koreans forced into wartime labor in Japan. The court ordered the Japanese firm to pay about 27 million won (USD20,200) to a victim, surnamed Heo, and 18 million won (USD13,400) each to the four other victims. South Korean courts nationwide have issued numerous compensation rulings in favor of forced labor victims and their families in cases brought against Japanese companies after the Supreme Court upheld two relevant rulings in 2018.
