Seoul: Lisa Su, chief executive officer of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), is scheduled to visit Samsung Electronics Co.'s production line in South Korea and meet senior semiconductor division officials, industry sources said Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Su plans to visit Samsung Electronics' chip production complex in Pyeongtaek, around 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on Wednesday. She is set to meet with co-CEO Jun Young-hyun, who oversees the chip division, and Han Jin-man, head of Samsung's foundry business. This visit marks Su's first trip to South Korea since taking office in 2014.

Industry watchers suggest that the meeting between AMD and Samsung could lead to enhanced cooperation in the foundry segment, expanding their partnership beyond memory chips. Since 2025, Samsung Electronics has been supplying HBM3E to AMD's latest artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, preserving a strong business relationship. The discussions during Su's visit may include utilizing Samsung's production capacity for AMD's next-generation AI chips.

Samsung Electronics could potentially boost its foundry business by securing AMD as a new client, which may enhance profitability in a sector currently dominated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Su might also meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, according to the sources.

Additionally, Su is expected to hold a separate meeting with Naver Corp. CEO Choi Soo-yeon on Wednesday at the South Korean portal operator's headquarters in Seongnam, just south of Seoul. Discussions between Su and Choi are anticipated to focus on cooperation in the AI data center business. An industry official noted, "With Naver being one of the major clients for AMD, Lisa Su is expected to seek cooperation with related South Korean businesses in various areas during her visit to South Korea."
