Milan: Alpine snowboarder Lee Sang-ho will strive to secure South Korea's first medal at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics as he competes in the men's parallel giant slalom at Livigno Snow Park. The qualification round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, which corresponds to 5:30 p.m. in South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee previously captured a silver medal in this event at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, marking a historic achievement as the first South Korean to earn an Olympic medal in any snowboarding or skiing discipline. Despite a narrow quarterfinal loss at Beijing 2022, Lee is arriving in Italy with momentum, having clinched a gold medal at his final World Cup competition in Slovenia on January 31.

During the qualification run, each snowboarder will complete two runs, with the top 16 based on combined times advancing to the elimination round. The elimination round follows a knockout format, with athletes competing head-to-head on parallel courses.

Lee is one of three South Korean athletes participating in the men's parallel giant slalom event, alongside Cho Wan-hee and Kim Sang-kyum. Additionally, Jeong Hae-rim will represent South Korea in the women's parallel giant slalom on the same day.
