Seoul: Acting President Lee Ju-ho has mandated heightened security measures for all presidential candidates as the official campaigning period begins this week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee has instructed the National Police Agency to fully commit to safeguarding candidates during the 22-day campaigning phase, which starts on Monday in anticipation of the June 3 election. This directive underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring the safety of the electoral process.
"Elections are the foundation of democracy, and any threat to a candidate cannot be tolerated," Lee stated, highlighting the necessity of deploying all available resources for top-level security. He emphasized the importance of these measures in light of growing social tensions, aiming to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
