4 Injured in Evacuation as Airplane Catches Fire at Busan Airport

Busan: A passenger aircraft caught fire at an international airport in the southeastern city of Busan on Tuesday, with four people sustaining injuries while evacuating. According to Yonhap News Agency, fire authorities reported that an Air Busan plane, an Airbus A321-200, bound for Hong Kong from Gimhae International Airport in Busan, caught fire at its tail before its takeoff around 10:26 p.m. The aircraft carried 169 passengers, six crew members, and one maintenance worker, all of whom evacuated using an inflatable slide. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 10:34 p.m., and fire authorities confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished by 11:31 p.m. Initially, there were no reported injuries, but later updates indicated that four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the evacuation. Two of the injured were treated at a nearby hospital. The fire originated at the tail of the plane and appeared to spread to the fuselage. The specific cause of the fire was not immediately determin ed, though it seemingly began inside the tail end of the aircraft. Notably, Air Busan had not reported any accidents over the past twelve years.
